Silver Swans Class

The Friends of the Australian Ballet and the Royal Academy of Dance invite you to celebrate Seniors Week 2022 with a Silver Swans® ballet class for older learners. Taught by RAD Examiner, Tutor, Registered Teacher, and Silver Swans® licensee Christine Atkinson, join us for a safe and adaptable ballet class open to everybody.

Members will be able to attend with either in-person at the RAD studio in Darlinghurst, or join online.

After the class, Christine will join in-person participants for afternoon tea.

If you are looking for a new way to keep fit and active, this class will put a spring in your step.

ABOUT SILVER SWANS

Specially designed for over-55s, Silver Swans® ballet classes help improve your mobility, posture, co-ordination and energy levels, whether you’ve never danced before or want to get back into the swing of it.

Launched initially in 2017, Silver Swans® can now be found dancing all over the world and are their own special ballet community. Silver Swans classes can be great places to meet new people with a passion and joy for life, as well as reap the benefits of movement, musicality and connection.

ABOUT CHRISTINE ATKINSON

Christine Atkinson originates from Cardiff, South Wales, UK. And relocated to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in 1992.

At the age of 10 she joined The Welsh National Ballet School, then run by the late Joyce Marriot (Espinosa School). At the age of 16 Christine became a full time student of The Rambert School of Ballet, Mercury Theatre, London under the guidance of Dame Marie Rambert.

On completing her training Christine went on to dance professionally and then to teach for The Welsh Arts Council and Ogwr Borough Council, was voted onto The Executive Committee of The Dance Council for Wales  and The Royal Academy of Dancing’s South Wales Committee, U.K. Christine was privileged to be coached by Mrs. Peggy Olden A.R.A.D. and completed both the R.A.D. Teaching Diploma and Teaching Certificate with Distinction.

Christine is an Examiner, Registered Teacher, Freelance Faculty Tutor, CBTS Mentor and CPD Tutor for the Royal Academy of Dance and is Principal of and teaches regularly at The Ballet Class, Rose Bay, Sydney as well as privately tutoring in Australia and overseas.

IMPORTANT BOOKING INFORMATION

This Silver Swans class is going ahead with capacity in line with current NSW Government restrictions. This capacity may change. All sales are subject to The Friends COVID Ticketing Policy.

You must a hold a current Friends membership to book tickets at the Friends member price.

Physical tickets are no longer being issued. Prior to the performance, a digital ticket will be sent to the email address provided at the time of booking.

All guests aged 16 and over attending the class in person are required to be triple vaccinated with a Covid-19 vaccine unless lawfully exempt.

Face masks are required for patrons aged 12 and over while inside the foyer and studio. Masks may be removed during the class.

All patrons and visitors will be asked to check-in via QR code on arrival at the RAD Studio.
