EVENTS AND MARKETING INTERN

Position Title: Events and Marketing Intern
Reports to: Events and Marketing Manager and General Manager
Classification: Internship, part time
Hours: Minimum 1 day per week, may increase in busy periods
Duration: Minimum 20 weeks with the possibility of extension
Salary: This position is unpaid but reasonable expenses will be covered.
Location: The Rocks, Sydney

ORGANISATION OVERVIEW

The Ballet Society, New South Wales (www.fab.org.au) is an independent, not–for-profit, membership-based company limited by guarantee, established in 1973, that has been connecting members and inspiring ballet audiences for almost 50 years.

The Ballet Society, New South Wales is the principal support organisation for The Australian Ballet in New South Wales and is committed to developing talent through projects and scholarships with The Australian Ballet, and students of The Australian Ballet School.

MISSION AND PURPOSE

The Ballet Society nurtures and supports a diverse community of ballet lovers, to encourage, inspire and share the appreciation of ballet. We exist to support The Australian Ballet and The Australian Ballet School, through financial support and scholarships, whilst making ballet more accessible to and generating engagement and community for our members.

The principal activities of The Ballet Society, New South Wales are:

  • Creating a community of friends and ballet lovers by offering behind-the-scenes access to the world of ballet through dress rehearsals, events and member engagement.
  • Fundraising through events, including dress rehearsals by The Australian Ballet at the Sydney Opera House, to support The Australian Ballet and The Australian Ballet School.
  • Building the profile of The Ballet Society, New South Wales and delivering strong and diverse membership growth to ensure the continued support to The Australian Ballet and The Australian Ballet School.

OVERVIEW OF INTERNSHIP

This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marketing, planning and organising events, budget management, and relationship building. It will be of particular interest for a student looking to gain knowledge of, and skills, within the arts/not-for-profit sector.

As an intern, you will provide general support to the Events & Marketing Manager both in the office and at events.

The Ballet Society, New South Wales is committed to the quality of the internship program we offer. The successful candidate will be provided with a tailored mentoring program and genuine learning and development opportunities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This role will assist and support the Events & Marketing Manager with the administration and management of events and functions, and implementation of marketing strategies. The intern will gain experience in all stages of event management, from initial planning through to completion, as well as experience in creating and delivering marketing campaigns and social media content. In addition, the intern will provide general support to both the Events & Marketing Manager and General Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Duties will be tailored to meet the learning objectives of a successful internship candidate. If you have a particular interest in developing skills not directly listed below, please ensure these are highlighted in your cover letter.

Duties may include:

  • Assisting with daily administrative duties
  • Responding to incoming enquiries about The Ballet Society, New South Wales and our events.
  • Use of ticketing/CRM system.
  • Securing gifts, raffle prizes, and other sponsorship.
  • Assisting with planning, creative execution and running of events.
  • Formulating measures for tracking and analysis of events.
  • Assisting with the streamlining of event procedures and processes.
  • Maintaining communication with supporters, thanking them and providing support.
  • Attending event meetings.
  • Participating in creative meetings and planning session in relation to marketing execution.
  • Designing and presenting new social media campaign ideas.
  • Assisting with the execution of marketing campaigns and social media content.

SELECTION CRITERIA 

Essential

  • Keen interest in events and marketing.
  • Highly computer literate with experience in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
  • Proactive, creative and enthusiastic
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Appreciation of the performing arts, particularly classical ballet or dance.
  • Currently studying.

Desirable

  • Experience with design platforms such as Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience with ticketing systems or custom relationship management.
